Fuzhou is in the southeast Fujian region. Fuzhou,
also spelled Fou-Chow or Fu-Chou, is the capital of Fujian Province in
China.
The city lies on the Min River about 30 miles from
the river's mouth. Fuzhou was once a center of tea and camphor trade.
Fuzhou has a lot of parts in the village. I
was born in "Shilong". It is a very beautiful village. There
are many flowers, trees, rivers and some fruits in the hills. In
the hills you can find a lot of things like tea. In the summer a
lot people go to the hills to pick the oranges, apples, bananas and pears.
A lot of people go to the river to catch the fish and shrimp.
So Fuzhou has a lot of interesting things!

The Dragon Festival
The festival is deep in my memory. During this festival we eat a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. We also play the Dragon Boat game.
We make many kinds of dumplings. In my home we don’t like sweets, so we make salty dumplings. Inside it has peanuts, mushrooms, meat and green onions; it is very delicious!
During this festival the weather is very hot. The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on rivers in southern China. It is connected with the death of the politician and poet Qu Yuan. In 288 B.C. Qu Yuan ended his life by throwing himself into the Miluo River in Yunan province to protest the corrupt government.
Today people eat pyramid-shaped rice cakes and race beautiful boats shaped like dragons to honor Qu Yuan’s memory.
The Dragon Boat Festival, is a scene of bustle and excitement; In the Dragon Boat people put on the same clothes, they are very pretty. They are very happy.
In the Dragon Boat Festival each person eats lunch. When they finish, they go tom see Dragon Boats. There are a lot of boats in the river and a lot of people in the boats, about ten. In the front of the boat, a person needs to boost morale, because the rowers are competing against the Dragon Boats.
Only boys are allowed to be rowers. I don’t know why, it has always been
this way.
The Dragon Boat Festival lasts four or five days. Dragon boats are long
and slim. The prow is carved in the shape of a huge dragon head and hull
is beautifully painted. Everyone in the audience shouts for his or her
favorite racing team.
The dragon boat race is a very noisy and exciting festival.
This is a very good and happy Dragon Boat Festival.
During the Dragon Boat Festival, a lot of people go to see all of the dragon boats on the river. They need to beat drums and strike gongs to set off firecrackers and in the evening to let off firework.
Maybe I was five years old when I saw my grandmother make dumplings for the first time. I didn’t know why she was doing that.
The poet,
Qu Yuan |
